Amber Dawn (Itskin) Ely

May 24, 1986 — May 13, 2017

Amber Dawn Itskin (Ely) passed away Saturday May 13 th , 2017. She was taken tragically by a Heroin Overdose. I have chosen to tell her story in hopes that it will help someone so that her death will not have been in vain.  This epidemic is sweeping across our nation and affecting lives everywhere. I for one am tired of hearing about people losing their loved ones from an opioid overdose. Something has to be done, and things need to change. If my sister’s story will help just one addict stay clean another day or help one to choose a life of sobriety then it was worth the pain to write this. My sister was not famous. During her life she did not make any major contributions to our society and she wasn’t wealthy….she was an addict.  However, she was also a mother to four children, a Daughter, a Grand-daughter, a Sister, a Niece, a Cousin and a Dear Friend to many people who loved her and will miss her every single day. For this reason alone her story deserves to be heard. Amber was a beautiful disaster. She loved big, cared deeply for others and likely saved thousands of stray cat’s lives. Amber was fearless, fierce and lived by the beat of her own drum. Her smile was warm, with dimples so deep that they could echo her infectious laugh from them. Her green eyes were enchanting and my heart aches that no one will ever get to experience them again. Her demons and mental illness over-came her. Family and friends desperately tried to help her but the resources were not there and heroin stole her beautiful soul. Her last choice in life was to be an organ donor. That selfless decision saved two lives on Mother’s Day. Amber was an amazing person. Amber was born in Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Hamilton Township High School in 2004. Amber was survived by her Grand Parents Marty and Donna Herrold, Sister Tiffany Cloutier and Uncle Troy Itskin, Dwayne Seeger, Jonathan Miller and Aunts Ruthie Miller and Shelby Seeger. She left behind four children; Ryland, Leiland, Gabriel and Abigail. She was preceded in death by her father Scott Itskin, mother Twila Holsinger (Arrington), and grand-parents Melvin and Connie Miller. Private Memorial Services will be held for family and close family friends at Edwards Funeral Home.
