Norma “Bliss” (née McAllister) died peacefully in Columbus, Ohio on December 7, 2017 at the age of 68. Bliss was a mighty force of nature with a quick wit, a legendary love of cake and mimosas, and a personal style that was recognized in a book called Advanced Style. A business owner with her original brick and mortar store “Antiques in Oak”, Bliss later embraced the digital world in her own unique style with “Heavenly Handbags”.
Bliss was born on July 28th, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio to Norman & Elsie McAllister. As her father was in the Air Force, Bliss lived all over the world during her formative years. She attended Cornell University and later graduated with a degree in Behavioral Science. She married James Bliss after college and that union produced her only child, Dr. Aminah Bliss.
Bliss will be missed and continually loved by her family: daughter: Aminah Bliss, son-in-law Mustafa Afsar, grandchildren Ekrem Afsar and Ozan Afsar of California; Mother: Elsie McAllister; sisters & brothers: Norman McAllister Jr., Donna Robinson (Bruce Robinson, brother-in-law), Donald McAllister, Diane McAllister, Dina McAllister Hill, Denette McAllister & Dawn McAllister. And her nieces: Crystal Gwinn, Dawn McAllister, Danielle McAllister and Austin McAllister. She is preceded in death by her father, Norman L. McAllister of Columbus, Ohio.
A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home from 11 to 1pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bliss’ life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the home of Donna and Bruce Robinson, 1652 Rainbow Park, Columbus, OH 43206.
