Alyssa Patience Butler

September 5, 1996 — June 29, 2019

Columbus

On a special day of September 05, 1996 God loaned me Alyssa Patience Butler at 3:24 pm on a Thursday to Rickey Martin and Monica Butler in Denver Colorado. Modern folklore states, “Thursday’s child has far to go!”

Alyssa did go far in life; always being on the honor roll K-12 as well as even though her high school years were rebellious times for her, she STILL managed to finish the alternative program first in her class, and went back to McCleur High after transferring from Riverview where she excelled through tremendous peer pressure and bullying, Alyssa soared all the way to graduating top 10% of her class of 2014.

Alyssa was ALWAYS about God in ANYTHING she set out to do. Alyssa always led people to God naturally, embracing them like a newborn child. Her beautiful artistic talents took her to many events, awards, and accolades throughout her academic career. Of the five children her Mother, Monica had, Alyssa was what you called “a ride or die” individual, always at my side surviving whatever task life dealt our family.

Alyssa always preserved over any obstacle that came her way.

Alyssa’s academics led her to Columbus, Ohio where she missed the deadline for Ohio State in July 2015 and she enrolled instead in Columbus State where she finished two years in one year and six months. She spoke for Angela Davis at CSC in fall of 2016 and received high accolades earning her and internship with Honda. Her passion was computer mechanical engineering and she was highly proficient in this area as well as mathematics. Her ability to read music at nine years untaught proving she could play any instrument, but very accomplished in drums earning her a spot on the Missouri College, Lincoln University College Band. She turned down the offer to come to Columbus with her family. Alyssa’s gifts touched us all and I would like to let you  in her artistic world for a moment: her daughter, A’Zahri Ke Butler was her greatest gift she gave us and she will always have her mother’s spirit watching over her and those that encounter this precious bundle of joy. This gift was solely from God to carry on Alyssa’s beauty of life. This creation came into the world on March 08, 2019.

In God’s time and not our own, Alyssa was called back to God to finally soar and be at the place she always talked to everyone about: Heaven.

God gave me Alyssa Patience Butler, an Angel as I rightly had named. Her name means logical, rational, and good humor, which she exuded all of these qualities in her character. For twenty-two years, nine months, sixty-seven days, and some odd hours and seconds, Alyssa, I absolutely enjoyed my opportunity in being your mother and for God blessing me with you. I love you and will always forever be missed.

Enclosed you will find excerpts, poems, and videos of my daughter’s artistic talent, humor, and loving kindness she showed any and every one she met and touched. Know that these creative passages are from her personal journals never read by anyone.

Alyssa leaves a beautiful daughter, A’Zahri Ke Butler, Ahyria P. Butler, eldest sister, Rickquel M. Williams, sister, Rickeo C. Williams, only brother, baby sister Ricke’A A. Williams,  Anber Martin, second eldest sister, Monica M. Butler, mother, Rickey Martin, father, Jeffrey Brown, stepfather, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Viewing will be held Friday July 12, 2019 at the Edwards Funeral Service Chapel 1166 Parsons Avenue Columbus, OH 43206 from 2PM - 4PM.
