Phyllis McLaurin

April 24, 1935 — June 16, 2020

Phyllis Marie (Braxton) McLaurin was born April 24, 1935 and returned to the Lord June 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by mother Rotha Braxton, father, Eugene Braxton, sister Peggy Smith (Otis), and brother Melvin Tony Braxton (Carolyn). She is survived by her daughter, La Mel Molson, and a host of nephews and nieces. Phyllis attended East High School and went on to study dental hygiene at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated Valedictorian of her class. Later she to moved to Southern California where she found work as Dental Hygienist and practiced in her field for more than 20 years. In 1979 she decided to come back home to Columbus Ohio. She purchased her fathers’ home and began the rehabilitation process on the property. Around 1985 she enrolled in school of Nursing and earned her LPN license. She went on to practice nursing at Isabell Ridgeway and Regency Manor. She was a woman of many talents and hobbies which often earned her a nice side income. She was a firm believer in developing her gifts and often participated in classes to learn furniture reupholstering, ceramics, Doll making and sewing. She followed in her mother’s footsteps and collected and sold antiques, dolls and collectibles at various exhibits and flea markets throughout Ohio. A devoted woman of faith and a long-standing member of Unity Church, always sending in tithes, and donating to various charities. (Generous to all). She enjoyed having yard sales with her daughter which they did annually from 1996-2019. Her signature gift to family and friends were $2.00 bills. She was a lady of style and a great cook. She often hosted dinner parties for her friends and family and loved to bake dinner rolls from scratch. They melted in your mouth. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Rest in paradise mom, until we meet again. xoxoxo
