Rachel Elizabeth Blades

Rachel Elizabeth Blades 1921- 2020 passed away peacefully April 29, 2020 at 99
years young at The Manor at Whitehall following a brief battle with the corona
virus. Born in Cols. OH, a Presbyterian minister’s oldest daughter. Her childhood
memories included moving with her family as her father became Pastor at
churches in Cols. & Mt Pleasant, OH., Carlise & Bowling Green KY and Columbia,
TN. She played piano for the choir and assisted her parents in the ministry. After
finishing her degree at Barber Scotia College, she worked most of her life for city,
state & federal governments while residing in NYC, Los Angeles, California, and
her hometown Cols. where after retiring she visited and cared for seniors. Her
strong, feisty, fun spirit, humorous quick wit, sense of style, breadth of
knowledge, and kind caring heart made her an amazing Mother who was truly
loved by her family and many adoring friends. Her favorite hobbies were
crossword puzzles, fashion, interior design, and she loved her cheese & crackers
and cake & ice cream. Preceded in death by her beloved parents Reverend
Joseph Preston Blades and Lucille (Frazier) Blades, Sister Dr. Miriam (Blades)
Carter, Brothers Airforce Colonel Phillip Blades, Melvin Blades and Hubert Blades.
Son Robert Blades, Niece Amy Middleton. Survived by Daughter and Son in Law
Leslie (Blades) Kelley and William E. Kelley of California. Nieces Linda Carter, Kay
Carter Corker, Carol Denise, Joan Clemons, extended family and dear long-time
friends and neighbors. Funeral Services provided by Edwards Funeral Home
1166 Parsons Ave. Columbus, OH 43206. Due to the pandemic a memorial will
be arranged at a future date. The family wishes to give special appreciation to
Ophelia dear family friend and care provider, the healthcare providers at the
Manor at Whitehall and Bella Care Hospice for their tireless loving care and
support-please pray for their health and safety as they continue to care for the
most vulnerable. In lieu of flowers, if desired please make contributions to Bella
